The Honor Seiki VL-100 Series is a vertical turning platform designed to machine large-diameter components with configurations that range from dedicated turning to multi-process machining. The platform structure remains consistent, while tooling systems and ram configurations determine capability.

The machine provides an X-axis travel of 750 mm (29.5") and Z-axis travel of 700 mm (27.6"), with an optional Z-axis travel of 900 mm (35.4"). Maximum turning capacity is Ø1200 mm (47.2") with a turning height of 800 mm (31.5"). The Z-axis ram is available in a 200 × 200 mm (7.9" × 7.9") or optional 220 × 220 mm (8.7" × 8.7") cross-section. The fixed cross rail structure stabilizes the cutting zone and maintains tool position under load.
The table is supported by cross roller bearings, distributing cutting forces across a large contact surface and maintaining rotational accuracy during heavy cuts. The spindle is driven by a 30 / 37 kW (40 / 50 HP) motor delivering up to 14,390 Nm (10,600 ft·lb) of torque. This supports low-speed, high-force cutting conditions required for large diameter parts.
A fully enclosed splash guard system contains coolant and chips within the work zone. This maintains consistent cutting conditions and reduces thermal variation during extended cycles.
Linear scale feedback is available on the X and Z axes, providing direct position measurement and reducing positioning error from thermal growth and mechanical backlash. Control options include Fanuc 0i-TF Plus with iHMI or Siemens 840D SL, allowing integration into existing shop control standards.
Configuration Structure - C, CM, CR, and CRM
The VL-100 platform uses four primary configurations to define machine capability. These are not incremental upgrades; each configuration determines the machine’s functional role.
C Configuration
The C configuration is a turning-only platform using a GC-200 clamping system and a 12-position turning tool magazine. The machine is configured for high material removal rates and stable cutting in turning applications. No live tooling is present.
CM Configuration
The CM configuration adds a milling spindle with BT50 tooling. This enables milling, drilling, and rigid tapping operations in addition to turning. The machine can complete multiple operations in a single setup, reducing part handling and improving positional accuracy between features.
CR Configuration
The CR configuration increases structural rigidity for heavy cutting conditions. The ram and support structure are reinforced to maintain stability under higher cutting forces. This configuration is intended for larger or more demanding workpieces but remains a turning-only platform.
CRM Configuration
The CRM configuration combines the reinforced structure of the CR with the multi-process capability of the CM. It supports turning, milling, drilling, and rigid tapping with maximum rigidity. This configuration is used when both heavy cutting and process consolidation are required.
Tooling and Process Capability
Tooling architecture follows configuration.
C and CR configurations use a turning tool automatic tool changer with a 12-position capacity. These configurations are optimized for turning operations and heavy cuts.
CM and CRM configurations use a milling-capable tool system with BT50 tooling. These machines support driven tools and can perform milling, drilling, and tapping operations. Angle heads expand capability by allowing access to features that are not aligned with the vertical spindle axis. A 90° angle head enables side machining, while adjustable angle heads support drilling and tapping at variable angles.
Additional operations include spline cutting and optional grinding, allowing further process consolidation within a single machine.
Optional tooling systems include Solid Lock clamping, which increases rigidity at the tool interface, and CAPTO manual tool holders for modular tooling compatibility.
Accuracy, Measurement, and Control
Optional linear scales on the X and Z axes provide direct feedback for improved positioning accuracy. This reduces cumulative error during long travel movements and extended cycle times.
Integrated probing systems allow in-process measurement of both tools and workpieces. Tool probes verify tool condition and length, while workpiece measurement systems support feature verification during machining.
Additional systems such as digital coolant level monitoring and oil skimming maintain stable operating conditions over long production runs.
Application Fit
The VL-100 Series is used for machining large round components where part weight, diameter, and cutting forces require a stable vertical platform. Typical applications include flanges, rings, housings, and energy-related components.
Configuration selection is based on process requirements.
Turning-only applications with high material removal rates are suited to C or CR configurations.
Applications requiring multiple operations in a single setup are suited to CM or CRM configurations.
Heavy cutting combined with multi-process machining is addressed by the CRM configuration.
Positioning
The VL-100 Series is a configurable vertical turning platform that allows machine capability to be matched to the application. Structural rigidity, torque capacity, and tooling configuration determine whether the machine functions as a dedicated turning center or a multi-process machining platform.
